Such as this 16-page catalogue of equipment and consumables for catering businesses. They are industrial supplies, which is surprising given that, in all my culinary endeavours, I rarely have need for a twin deck pizza oven or a sous vide bath (<em>unstirred<\/em> \u2013 whatever that means).<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s not to say the catalogue is without interest, even for someone whose basic requirements extend no further than a saucepan and a can opener.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-861 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-2.jpg\" alt=\"The kitchen catalogue detail\" width=\"567\" height=\"465\" srcset=\"https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-2.jpg 567w, https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-2-300x246.jpg 300w, https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-2-530x435.jpg 530w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 567px) 100vw, 567px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>For instance, I never knew that knives and chopping boards could be colour-coded according to what they are used to chop. How do chefs manage to remember such details in the hurly-burly of kitchen prep? In fact it\u2019s quite easy and logical: red for meat, white for dairy, blue for seafood (the sea, see?), yellow for poultry (what a yolk), green for veggies and brown for cooked meat (well-done presumably). Neat eh, although I\u2019m not sure where tofu fits into this scheme.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-859 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-4.jpg\" alt=\"The kitchen catalogue detail\" width=\"567\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-4.jpg 567w, https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-4-300x186.jpg 300w, https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-4-530x328.jpg 530w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 567px) 100vw, 567px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Then there\u2019s the chafing dish fuel. I had no idea what a chafing dish might be, apart from perhaps being something that might involve constant rubbing. And why would it need fuel to do that? But it turns out that chafing dishes have a long and venerable <a title=\"Chafing dish\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chafing_dish\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">history<\/a>. Who knew? From such nuggets of knowledge are crossword clues born (and solved).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-862 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-3.jpg\" alt=\"The kitchen catalogue\" width=\"567\" height=\"320\" srcset=\"https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-3.jpg 567w, https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/deadreal.com.au\/dead_paper\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/kitchen-catalogue-3-530x299.jpg 530w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 567px) 100vw, 567px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m still not enthusiastic though about publications being named after what they are \u2013 in this case <em>Bulletin<\/em> \u2013 rather than what they are about. It just seems like laziness to me, a lack of seriousness and effort to come up with a suitably descriptive moniker. All it takes is half an hour\u2019s brainstorming down the pub. How about The Cater-logue? Kitchen Chronicle? Hospitality Herald?
