At first glance it seems somewhat bizarre that somebody should discard such a collection of dead mops all at once (OK, there are some brooms in there as well but for the purposes of this post we’re only looking at the mops). Is this someone who has been hoarding their dead mops, waiting for the day when they could finally set them free in one huge cathartic purge?
Interesting too that this is somebody who would rather buy a new mop than simply replace the sponge. The effort involved in replacing the sponge is too great. It’s much easier just to get a new mop. Does that give a clue?
The answer is quite simple. This pile of dead cleaning implements was found outside the premises of somebody who runs a commercial cleaning business, an activity in which dead mops and brooms are an everyday occurence, mere waste products of the process.
I won’t go into the irony of a cleaning company that dumps its unwanted rubbish by the side of the road – it is merely transference anyway. One area is cleaned so another must become dirty. There’s nothing new in that.
